Carolina Isabel Reyes is 1st generation born in the U.S. She grew up on the North side of Chicago in the Edgewater neighborhood. Raised by her mother, an immigrant from Belize, she was taught a mix of traditions from British, Creole, Mestizo, and Mayan cultures. Being part Mexican, and growing up without her Mexican father has led her to struggle to learn its language, question, discover, and explore her Mexican culture.
Her aunt’s influence made it possible to further her education and enrolled her in a catholic high school where she discovered her creativity at St. Gregory High School in 1996. She went on to receive her BA in Fine Art, with a concentration in painting at Columbia College Chicago in 2002. While attending Columbia College Chicago, she was selected to exhibit her work in “Fashion Columbia”, and in the Hokin Annex.
Currently, she is working with St. Gregory High School to start a mentorship program in the arts. Carolina is also helping to promote S.W.A.N. (Support Women Artist Now) organization. She has also started a blog site to provide a feedback forum, resources, and event listing for artist and will tour her work in New York, San Francisco, and Miami.
